I didn't think Arod would opt out of his contract, but now that he has I am relieved. Although his individual numbers are irreplaceable, the $30+ million price-tag he demands and the drama and controversy he attracts will not be missed, nor will his slapping at first basemens' gloves, yelping at third baseman fielding pop ups, fear of catching pop ups himself, or his purple-colored lips. Winning or losing will be more fun without him.
To his future employer, a message from a nytimes.com reader: "Whoever gets him will need to offer incentives for him to hit over .200 in the post season."
